From her secluded cabin deep in the autumn mountains, Mary Summer Rain shares her own philosophical views about many fascinating subjects. During an evening fireside chat, she brings together the wisdom of a lifetime of experiences, observations, and deep contemplation. In a quiet dialogue with a her companion, Sally, Mary covers a variety of fascinating subjects such as quantum and virtual meditation, the meaning of value, what real power is, the wisdom of silence, unconditional goodness, what children need to be taught, the eight qualities of wisdom, the nature of the Web of Consciousness, the new enlightened physicists, and much more, including a few predictions for the future.
The evening is spiced with an unexpected experience with an apparition caused by a wrinkle in time, a close encounter of the ‘bear’ kind, and a surprise visitation by three dancing balls of light just beyond her moonlit front porch.

Two people having a conversation during one evening -- no murders; no explosions; no torrid love affairs; and not even a talking dog or a pirate! How could it possibly be entertaining? This is a silly review introduction, but Fireside is engrossing in ways I did not expect.

I am a major league fan of everything Mary writes, because her work never fails to quench my thirst for spiritual understanding. Fireside delivers again in that department, and as bonus, her and Sally unravel important meanings to words we assume we understand -- like Acceptance, Love, Wisdom. These are words we overuse, and often over-assume understanding of, and they carry more importance to life than words like Wrench, Barbie, Salsa, or even Sadness. They are worthy of scrutiny because they are represent jewels, and Mary and Sally polish them deftly...and without the unnecessary sentimentality that other books heap onto the subjects. There is no other theme I can muster into a review category; the rest of the conversations address and expound upon particular facets begun in previous works by Mary Summer Rain.

If you are new to this author's work, you would probably enjoy Fireside (and also Eclipse, especially) much more after reading some of her previous works. I'd recommend Spirit Song, Phoenix Rising, Ruby, and Bittersweet before Fireside or Eclipse. I think all stand on their own well, and I recommend ALL of her work as highly as I can possibly recommend any work, but keep in mind that she tackles very major topics that readers will often find themselves surprised even existed. She does it simply, analytically, and with a seeker's (and finder's) heart, but some of the topics are so revelatory to many people that it can take a while to truly digest. I even re-read books of hers years later and find myself in a new mental place, and I thought I understood them the first time.

For instance, she challenges fundamental religious principles to their core, in several books including Fireside. Now, I am not a religious person at all nor have I ever been. So I have nothing in that arena to be offended by if someone challenges the status quo or even the core roots of religion. Yet still, I am faced after reading Fireside and several of her books, with a need to digest even the simplest adjustments to dogma that has, despite my non-religious posture, affected my view on spiritual reality. One clarification from a work by Mary can have a cascade effect -- in a great way, but a large way nonetheless.

Reading Fireside is like sitting in on a conversation between old friends who are relatively uncluttered by society's many shows, and who therefor offer fresh takes on serious topics like reality, evil, and truth. Good people. Good talks. Great insights.

Fireside edition by Mary Summer Rain Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews

I am thrilled that Mary Summer Rain's books are now becoming available on ! I cherish all my books from this author but have put off buying a because many of my favorite books on spiritual wisdom have not been available in that format. I have been a Mary summer Rain fan for many years, looking forward to each new book, she has been a major part of my life and spiritual search. Fireside has the beautiful feeling of being right in a room with Mary Summer Rain as a friend and having a long evening discussion on matters of heart, mind and spirit combined. She helps us open our hearts, minds and souls to see where we are in our search for truth in the way a warm, trusting friend would, and that is how I see her. The words thank you cannot convey what is in my heart for this spirit sister and her work she has touched so many with. Now, more than ever, a wonderfuil book for wherever you may be on your path for spiritual truth.
Mary has a way of inviting you into her living room to sit comfortably in front of the fire as her guest, to enjoy the conversation as it flows between her and her long-time companion, Sally. The fireside chat ebs and flows and topics are discussed in fine detail, as only Mary can entwine the words to entice the reader into forgetting all but the capsule she has created in the their conversation.

Every day life as we all experience comes to life as they discuss things common to us all, bills to pay, challenges, pets and things not so common, such as "quantum conundrums" unraveled by physicists... and the exciting revelations of change with coming of the Shekinah... the feminine energies permeating our world today to bring about those long-awaited changes.

I am simply thrilled that Mary has chosen to bring "Fireside" into the world of electronic books so that many new readers can enjoy and learn from this classic work. It is a treasure!
This book was very cool. Loved the back & forth dialogue between Mary & Sally, and the playful inserts of her furry family members. I am an avid dog lover and love reading about and being with furry type living beings. Getting back to the dialogue, it was great and thought-provoking. Wish I could have been there! Mary thinks so deeply about everything. She pulls apart and lays out ideas so that everyone can understand them. She did a great job of relating physics and quantum physics to every-day occurances and happenings. Very intersting, lots to think about. Her references to quantum meditation were a little hard to understand but I re-read the references until I had a good grasp on them. I also loved her reference to "incredible energy capabilities of unconditional goodness." I hope that one day the people on Earth will put away their trivial differences and come together for the healing of Earth & one another. It isn't material "things" we need in our lives. Earth would be such a wonderful place if everyone lived & breathed "unconditional goodness." Again, thank you for providing so many wonderful philosophical ideas and concepts.
have outgrown this type of book
After years I just found her new books I have not read. When I read some of them. I feel like I am there. Of course I got the book Noeyes , to read again. Some things I can relate to. You keep writing them and I will keep buying them. Ty
As I read this book it's words of introduction made me feel like I was in a cozy room. I am glad I choose it at the time. I like the author.
